Publisher Mainstream to close – end 2013

Edinburgh, Scotland based non-fiction publishing house Mainstream will close it’s office by 31 December this year with the loss of up to 10 jobs. Mainstream was founded 1978 and announced an ‘exciting new publishing partnership with the Random House Group in 2005.’

they say: The company, which has built its name on publishing dynamic non-fiction, will cease to acquire further new titles but will continue to publish all of its already scheduled titles. The last Mainstream title will be published in 2014.
Thereafter the legacy of its formidable backlist – which boasts best-selling and award-winning authors of the calibre of Hugh McIlvanney, Martha Long, Donald McRae, Philip Carlo, Carol Ann Lee and Warren Fellows, among others – will continue to be published as an imprint within the Random House Group.
