Congratulations to EMPICS Entertainment contributing photographer Richard Gray who won the ‘Mobile Device Photography’ category in the Terry O’Neill Award last week.
Richard’s comments on winning the award were:
“It’s great that the Terry O’Neill Awards, which has so much prestige in the photography world, should have decided to create a mobile category in the first place. I think it’s recognition there is some really serious work going on in the mobile sub-genre and that good work is good work irrespective of the device used. And I think their decision to give the award to my series, The Person Opposite, is recognition of the sort of thing that mobile is really good at – mobile devices allow photographers to get a lot closer to subjects without spooking them. Someone said to me there was no way the series could have been taken on anything other than a mobile phone camera. I’m obviously so proud and pleased to have won the award and I’d like to thank Terry O’Neill, Lord Putnam and the other judges for choosing my series.”
