You will be the lead picture researcher for a creative photo and footage library. Due to an increase in picture search requests from our International clients, we are seeking to recruit a high calibre Picture researcher, ideally with a book publishing background.
We serve many of the top publishing houses and are well respected within the industry. Although our core market is book publishing, we also sell across industry sectors.
You must have the ability work to tight deadlines and be able to demonstrate previous experience in successfully matching images to client briefs.

The successful candidate will also:
– be able to work on varied client requirements
– multi-task and work alone as well as in a team environment
– have experience of using a central database or CRM
– be highly organised and proactive
– have strong communication skills and visual skills
– solid industry experience and an understanding of image standards and technical aspects

Mary Evans Picture Library is the UK’s leading resource for historical pictures and has been supplying the publishing, media and design industries with images from its extensive archives for over fifty years. We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable new member of staff to join the picture research team to cover maternity leave on a fixed contract until May 2016.

Responsibilities will include:
• Online picture research from the large collection of images already scanned and available through the website.
• Offline picture research and retrieval of original material from the archive.
• Prioritising picture requests so that all deadlines are met comfortably.
• Regular contact with clients in order to check on project progress and to maintain good long term working relationships with clients.
• Negotiation of picture usage fees with a broad range of clients.
• Captioning and keywording of pictures.

Skills and qualifications ideally required
• Excellent communication and telephone skills.
• A good eye for detail.
• A keen interest in and knowledge of history.
• Broad general knowledge.
• Proven administrative experience and computer literacy.
• Proven ability to prioritise work.
• Education to degree level, ideally in a history related subject.
• Foreign language skills would be advantageous, but not essential.
