Ardea is one of the UK’s leading Natural History picture libraries and has been supplying the publishing, media and design industries with high quality images of wildlife, pets and the environment for over forty years. We are looking to grow the client facing team in line with plans to develop the business over the next few years. Consequently, we are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable new member of staff to join our sales team.

Responsibilities will include:
• Pro-active development of business with new and existing clients via telephone, email and face to face visits.
• Online picture research from the large collection of images already scanned and available through the website.
• Prioritising picture requests so that all deadlines are met comfortably.
• Regular contact with clients in order to check on project progress and to maintain good long term working relationships with clients.
• Negotiation of picture usage fees with a broad range of clients.
• Liaising with photographers regarding rights and general queries

Skills and qualifications ideally required
• Excellent communication and telephone skills.
• A good eye for detail.
• A keen interest in and knowledge of natural history.
• Broad general knowledge.
• Proven administrative experience and computer literacy.
• Proven ability to prioritise work.
• Education to degree level, ideally in a natural history related subject.
• Foreign language skills would be advantageous, but not essential.
• Prior experience working in a picture library.
• Experience with merchandising clients especially in the areas of greetings cards and calendars.

Role

Responsibilities

• Planning and executing an agreed program of marketing activities. Related budgeting, scheduling and reporting
• Identifying prospects and proactive calling to introduce Ikon Images content and services
• Developing opportunities for face to face meetings with potential customers and key accounts
• Following up on customer registrations, lightboxes and downloads.
• Development and maintenance of client database
• Negotiation of usage fees on individual image sales as well as the development and negotiation of price deals with key accounts
• Maintain and update aspects of the ikon-images.com site, communicate new content news and develop social media opportunities

Experience

• At least one year outbound/inbound sales experience in a stock photo agency, media or creative environment
• Strong customer service skills with a track record of engaging with customers and converting sales leads into new business
• Excellent communication and presentation skills

We are offering a good basic plus generous commission with expected earnings in excess of £32,000 per annum. Commission is uncapped so there’s the potential for the right person to earn considerably more.

Both picture judgment and news judgment are the twin paramount requirements for this position.
London photo editors are required to be as familiar with the top news stories of the day as they are with the basic elements that make a good photograph.

London photo editors provide timely and constructive feedback to photographers and editors in the field with regards to successful or missing coverage elements, often under the pressures of breaking news and imminent customer deadlines.

London photo editors work with colleagues across all AP formats, communicating regularly with editors from text, video and interactive departments, and providing constant updates on our best work throughout the newsroom. 


Knowledge and Experience:

• Candidates must have demonstrated superior photo and news judgment and the ability to work accurately and with speed under deadline pressure.

Job Purpose

Context

Key Responsibilities

– Identify new business opportunities and initiate contact with potential new clients
– Manage renewals for existing clients

Skills/Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications

Requirements:
• Minimum of two years outbound/inbound sales or account management experience – specifically in the photo stock syndication arena.

• Knowledge/use of Customer Relationship Management systems preferred

• Fluency in written and spoken italian
