Corbis Signs Exclusive Motorsports Photo Agency/Archive Feed

PAN READER EXCLUSIVE just in from Corbis PR in the States – official announcement going out later today – thanks Jen!

Great timing from Corbis as they have just announced an exclusive partnership with Sutton Images, a major name in racing imagery just ahead of this weekend’s F1 Monaco Grand Prix.

In addition to real-time delivery of breaking news from the track, UK based Sutton’s archive collection, including over 50,000 images will be available next month on Corbis Images. The extensive archive, which dates back to 1960, reveals many of racing’s historic moments; from the teams and drivers arrival at the track kicking off race weekend, to the cars that made history and celebrations in the winner’s circle that followed – these images capture the full range of commitment, talent, challenges and teamwork that have long been associated with F1 racing.
“Sutton Images is world renowned and respected for having the best F1 imagery available. Whether you’re the outlet covering the sport, the global brand sponsoring F1, a car manufacturer or a fan, this collection has it all, for any story telling need,” said Juli Cook, senior vice president of global media operations and media strategy for Corbis. “From the start line, to the victory celebrations, and everywhere in between Sutton’s photographers do what it takes to get the shot.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Corbis to extend the reach of our F1 archive through their worldwide network. Our photographers are committed to getting the best shots at every turn to tell the story of every Grand Prix and we look forward to sharing our work with an even broader audience of existing and future racing enthusiasts,” said Keith Sutton, chief executive officer of Sutton Images.

Image selections from each race will include:
– Drivers: headshots, race preparation, interaction with team principals, engineers and mechanics, family members, paddock, race day action, celebrations and podium.
– Cars: On the track from all angles, in pit lane and garages, close up shots of cutting edge design, technology and innovation, tires, sponsor logos, from all angles and in motion.
– Locations and Tracks: Race track detail, grandstands, infrastructure, corporate logos.  Atmosphere: Fans, autographs, celebrities, VIP’s and dignitaries.

Gary Morgan at Corbis Splash worked on securing this deal with Sutton Images.
Gary told PhotoArchiveNews.com : “I am delighted to have signed such a prestigious sport and the Sutton Images have a well deserved reputation as the best. From a personal point of view, I’m looking forward to hanging out in the pit and taking the cars for a spin!”
“This move buys into the idea that it is time for elite sports like Formula One racing to get a much wider distribution both in legacy and digital media. Corbis and Splash fully intend to support these exciting sports utilising our combined global distribution channels. With F1 coming to the US as well, we are hoping to see a soccer style growth of the sport Stateside.”
