Photo library biz development manager publishes book – maximises on image collection

Luci Gosling, Business Development Manager at UK photo library Mary Evans, has completed her latest book ‘Debutantes and the London Season’ with all images from the Mary Evans collection
The book focuses on ‘the Season’, a round of social events and parties during which the daughters of the upper classes made their ‘debuts’. Debutantes and their families descended on the capital from all over Britain to take part in this elaborate process that in its blend of glamour, great privilege and archaic and sometimes comic ritual is emblematic of a world now lost.

Luci told PhotoArchiveNews.com this morning: “With so much untapped material still in our archive, looking through the magazines and periodicals we hold here can really trigger ideas so it seems natural to partner up with publishers in order to explore some of its most interesting themes in book form. A few years ago, I authored a book on First World War cartoons for Osprey, and this year, Shire Books are publishing both this book, and another about Royal Coronations which pairs up my writing with the library’s content. Next up – I’m currently working on a book about the home front during the Great War through the eyes of magazines such as The Tatler and The Queen for The History Press, due to publication next year. Again, all material will come from Mary Evans– the archive just seems to be a never-ending source of inspiration!”
