As PhotoArchiveNews.com readers start digesting the Corbis / Visual China Group deal – we are getting lots emails and calls to the the office asking for news of Demotix, the citizen journalism site Corbis bought in 2012 – so we asked Corbis who have confirmed it went with the sale last week. The agency site seems to have disappeared …just links to Corbis now.

This just in from our contact at Corbis: ‘Yes Demotix went along with the sale. Any questions about Demotix should be directed to VCG and Getty, as they control this asset, the Demotix website, and the communications.’

Update: ….We are onto VCG to see if we can get on an email address for Demotix contributors and have asked that an email be sent to contributors about the situation.
Email [email protected] if you have any information to share on this.

Update : 26 Jan This on the Demotix Twitter feed …’Visual China Group has purchased the Demotix brand & content and will communicate next steps with #Demotix contributors as soon as possible’

Update: 28 Jan Demotix have updated contributors via email:

Dear Demotix Contributor,

Last week Corbis announced the sale of the Corbis Images (excluding Splash), Corbis Motion, and Veer licensing businesses to Unity Glory International, an affiliate of the Visual China Group (VCG), a leading Chinese visual communications and new media business.

In addition to the Corbis and Veer content, VCG has also purchased the Demotix brand and content. Currently the Demotix website is redirecting Demotix visitors to Corbisimages.com. VCG will communicate next steps with Demotix contributors as soon as possible.
