PHOTO CONTEST SUMMER DEADLINE
The UK Picture Editors’ Guild has confirmed the cut-off for entering this year’s Awards will be midnight on July 31st.
Judges for the higly-acclaimed competition have also been announced and Picture Editors from all sections of the media will be involved in deciding this year’s winners.
The appointed judges for 2011 are: Sue Connolly, The Times; Lynn Cullen, The Independent; Rob Taggart, Associated Press; Steve Derry, Express & Star Wolverhampton; Ian Down, Daily Mirror; Roger Tooth, The Guardian; Richard Bond, Evening Standard; Paul Walters, South West News Agency; Damien Demolder, Amateur Photographer; Dylan Martinez, Reuters and Julius Domoney of Bloomberg.
The competition awards thousands of pounds in prize money to the winners of nine categories with one selected for the further accolade of SABMiller Photographer of the Year. In last year’s contest the title went to The Guardian’s Martin Argles. This year an extra category for Regional Photographer of the Year has been added.
Amateur Photographer magazine has joined with the Guild to encourage readers to compete for the innovative BT Citizen Photographer of the Year title. Unlike the categories designed solely for Press Photographers, this section of the contest is for members of the public who can submit a favourite snap to see if it is a real award winner.
In a repeat of the inaugural presentation gala evening, the BBC broadcaster Kate Silverton will again host the Awards ceremony at the historic Honourable Artillery Company headquarters in the City of London this September.
Sponsors enabling the Guild to provide this unique opportunity to reward the very best in photo-journalism include SABMiller, the international brewer, telecom giant BT, British Airways, and Nikon, plus the media companies Bloomberg, Newscast, and Fotolia.
Entries for the 2011 Awards will be submitted via a dedicated website until the end of July with images taken between 17 th July 2010 and 16th July this year eligible for the nine separate categories.
