Sad news reaches the PAN office this week, the death of one of the busiest men in the sports photo arena Mark Wohlwender a sports photographer and picture editor at the Guardian newspaper in London. He was 50 and died of lung cancer.

David Jacobs, founder of sports photo agency Action Images where Mark worked sent us this :
“I was fortunate to know Mark as a friend and then in later years as a work colleague.
He was one of our industry’s great characters and went on to become a truly inspirational force, he always had a kind word and great respect for his colleagues. His love and interest in the “art of sport photography” was sadly shared by too few as we all chased the easy money (back then)…..
Sadly we lost touch for many years though in recent years we did meet at industry gatherings when we would reminisce with great pride about the past.
He will be missed but remembered as a flamboyant and highly cultured individual, different from most of us in sport, an enigma of our trade.
His memory will live on through his art, we will miss you Mark.”
