Hey Will , how are you,
Wanted to share with you for your consideration, our news about Athens Photo World, Greece’s first photojournalism festival, that we re organizing this June.
Athens Photo World 2019
Athens Photo World is a new initiative in the cultural and photographic perspective of Athens, based on an idea by Thanassis Stavrakis, Associated Press Chief Photographer for Greece, Cyprus, Albania and N. Macedonia. With a donation of Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the collaboration of a number of important institutions such as the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, Athens CultureNet and under the auspices of the City of Athens, Athens Photo World will be held from the 7th to the 16th of June 2019, aiming to bring photojournalism close to the Athenian audience through a series of exhibitions and events featuring some of the best contemporary Greek and international photojournalists.
At its opening event, Athens Photo World honours with its exhibitions and events photojournalist Yannis Behrakis, focusing on his long, rich and award-winning work. Athens Photo World started off with the valuable collaboration of the organising team with Yannis Behrakis. His ideas, his experience, his work and his personality have been a source of inspiration for the APW contributors and the organisation will always honour his memory and contribution to Greek and international photojournalism.
Athens Photo World will go for ten days and bring seven exhibitions to the capital, more than 100 photographers and more than 500 photos. Locals and visitors of Athens will come “face to face” with the global reality of the planet through the gaze and the work of experienced and recognised photographers.
Athens Photo World aims to showcase the work of photojournalists and their contribution to shaping the image of our world and history in the making, in times of political and social upheaval and reclassification. At the same time, an intended purpose is to showcase Athens as the meeting point of photographers at a time of rapid transmission of images, news and developments.
The first Athens Photo World is under the auspices of the City of Athens, with the donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and in collaboration with Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, Athens Culture Net functioning after founding donation from the SNF, the National Garden, the Ephorate of Antiquities, the Office of Modern Monuments and Technical Works of Attica and the Greek Archaeologists Association.
