Congrats to PAN partnered Photojournalism Hub founder Cinzia D’Ambrosi who is to receive the Spiga D’argento Award for the advancement of peace through her photo journalism work.
The Fidapa BPW (Battipaglia) Spiga d’Argento Award is in its twelfth edition and is given to those that work for the advancement of Peace.
They say: ‘Cinzia D’Ambrosi is awarded for the advancement of peace through her high quality testimony in her work. Cinzia D’Ambrosi is a documentary photographer whose vast ability and experience in involving and entering various communities has made her photographic work of great depth and unique vision. Cinzia’s work focuses on reaching out to those marginalized by society and often spends a lot of time with her subjects to bring her investigations to a deeper level.’
Cinzia told PAN: ‘I am honoured to be nominated to receive the Spiga d’Argento Award. I duly accept it and with it the responsibility that it holds’.
The award ceremony will take place on April the 9th in the hall of the municipal council of the city of Battipaglia, Italy.
Cinzia has over 15 years of experience working in the UK and internationally contributing to a number of editorials such as Der Spiegel, New Internationalist, Warscapes, BBC, The Guardian and working alongside international charities and organisations such as Amnesty International, Protection Approaches, Germany Refugee Council to develop advocacy campaigns using photography.
Her work focuses on systemic violence and racism, migration and homelessness. Her ongoing project Hate Hurts, which documents security and police violence against refugees in Europe, has been featured in extensive campaigns by Amnesty International, shown in numerous exhibitions in Europe and on Czech National TV. Hate Hurts was selected for the European Month of Photography in Bulgaria (2018), won an Award from the Photographers Gallery in London (2017), whilst her short film ‘Prejudice and us’ on the impact of racism and prejudice on youth lives in London received ‘Best Campaign’ Award from Hammersmith United Charities (2016), Hate Hurts project was selected by Amnesty International Czech Republic to tour as a solo exhibition in Czech Republic for a year in 2019.
Cinzia’s photography work has received support and commissions from Arts Council England, Big Local Trust, Hammersmith United Charities, Amnesty International Hungary, Amnesty International Czech, Amnesty International Hamburg, Westfield London, German Refugee Council.
