How do we do it? With a team of dedicated journalists, photographers, videographers and editors based across the UK who are passionate about real, original journalism.
Our picture desk produces images for both our own newswire and on behalf of our editorial and corporate customers.
Who we’re looking for:
This is a rare opportunity to cover a patch stretching from Land’s End to Bournemouth and up to Burnham on Sea, you’ll need to be based in Devon or Cornwall but we’ll leave it up to you to decide where.
The work will roughly divide 50/50 between assignments for the SWNS newswire and commissioned work for a variety of customers.
For the newswire work we’ll be looking for someone with plenty of ideas and a passion for news. You’ll need to work well on your own and be capable of gathering information for our newsdesk as well as shooting clips for our videodesk.
Our commissioned photography has been built on a commitment to provide a nationwide service at short notice, good value and high quality. The right candidate will use their editorial skills and a friendly manner to ensure we continue to satisfy our clients.

We’ll employ someone with some experience of shooting news photography or a passion to make that their career.
The right applicant will have a broad knowledge of photo software, ftp, file types and web based platforms.
You’ll need a knowledge of the legal issues around news photography but we will give training and guidance in all issues around IPSO and the relevant laws.
While most of our work falls in normal working hours news event aren’t always so considerate, you’ll need to be available at short notice at all times if a story breaks in your patch.
A good understanding of how to use social media is also a prerequisite.
Salary, benefits and application:
Salary will be competitive and will depend on upon experience.
Weekend and bank holiday overtime will be paid and we have an employee benefits program.
This is a full time position and we’ve looking to have someone in place by late December 2022.
