In the PAN post this week is another gem of a photo edit from Cafe Royal Books featuring PAN reader photographer David Levenson. It’s A5 in size and called Teenage Flaneur.
David told PAN: As a teenager in the 1970’s my world extended to the two ends of Kingsbury High Street. Once a year, a holiday to Eastbourne or Bournemouth. My interest in photography, went from a hobby, to a passion, to a lifetime career. As soon as I was able, I took the 52 bus into London. It opened up a world that I only knew from books and TV programmes. I wandered the streets, London A-Z in my hand, exploring back streets and thoroughfares. Without much talent or knowledge, I began to photograph the novelties that I discovered.
This zine is a selection from the journeys that I took. I came across marching Guardsmen, men in bowlers and top hats, park attendants, railway porters and Royalty. The final pictures were taken on a trip to Paris, on the day before my 20th birthday. My final day as a teenage flaneur.
