Jinx Rodger, photo editor, teacher and wife of Magnum photo agency co-founder George Rodger has died aged 98. Jinx died peacefully on Sunday 12 November with her son Jon by her side.

I have known Jinx for 20 years, we live in neighbouring villages in rural Kent. Jinx and I often went searching through George’s photo archive which was well catalogued and stored between her office and the in-house darkroom.
Most of our conversations were stories of her memories working with George and the early workings of the Magnum photo agency – great stories, all backed up with letters, expenses and prints of their travels across the world on photographic expeditions together. Her enthusiasm for reportage photography and the inner workings of a photo agency was fantastic!

• Here is an account of her trip with George Rodger to photograph the Nuba in the late 1950’s.

Photographer Chris Steele-Perkins has sent PAN these images below in memory of a great visit to see Jinx in May 2014. Chris was visiting Jinx at home with his wife Miyako who can be seen looking through photo records with her in the darkroom. Chris was helping shoot and an interview with Jinx – hoping to find that interview soon!
