PAN reader, photographer/photo editor Tom Broadbent, is requesting photo feature submissions from photographers in his new role at Roadbook – a digital platform for a new type of global traveller.
We caught up with Tom over the weekend to find out more about his role at the magazine and what content he’s after at the moment.
Tell us about Roadbook Tom
Roadbook is a digital platform for a new type of global traveller. Driven by deep local insights and a relentless focus on quality, we showcase inspirational people, places and stories from around the world.
Original content includes city guides, thought-provoking long reads, narrative photo essays and interviews with leading global tastemakers, uncovering the unique characteristics that make each city tick.
What is your role?
As Senior Photo Editor, my responsibilities cover all commissioning, image licensing and research across our website, Roadbook.com as well as commercial projects through our Creative Studio.
What are you looking for from photographers?
A shortcut to understanding what we want from photographers is to look at our City Guides if you live in these cities or have an in-depth knowledge of them we’re interested in hearing from you. All our features, are usually themed around them or near them. We feature long form photographic features on our Focal Point series
I’m on the lookout for photographers that shoot travel and portraits and have an aesthetic that fits ours. It helps if they’re able to capture video, for short clips on social media.
All paid, of course.
Can we see some examples of recent licensed photo features?
Kerala Express is the first feature I worked on, images are licensed directly from the photographers, Marc Sethi and Stuart Freedman plus the agencies, Alamy, EyeEm & 4Corners.
Essential Singapore Street Food we commissioned the photographer, Lauryn Ishak
Best Ramen in Tokyo, which came out last week, we commissioned the travel photographer, Yuuki Tadokoro
A local neighbourhood guide to Fitzroy, in Melbourne was a commissioned photoshoot with Julia Clark, who originally contacted us through our Contributors Portal.
How do photographers submit possible features?
Best to sign up to our contributor portal here.
Thanks Tom, Great work!
