‘It is with great sadness that we announce the death of akg-images CEO Kathrin Göpel on 18 December at the age of 62 following a long illness. Kathrin ran akg-images successfully from the company headquarters in Berlin, Germany, since taking over in 1996 following the sudden death of her husband Justus. Kathrin leaves behind three children, of whom the eldest, Friedrich Göpel, was appointed joint CEO of the company at the beginning of 2014. Everyone at akg-images will remember Kathrin’s kindness and warmth as well as the energy and imagination she brought to her role as CEO.’ akg images

All are welcome to come to the funeral to be held at midday on Wednesday 7 January at the Evangelischer Kirchhof Nikolassee, Kirchweg 18/20, Berlin. Following the service, friends and colleagues are invited to a gathering at the akg-images offices in Teutonenstraße 22, 14129 Berlin.

Industry reaction:
“In her own discreet way, Kathrin did a lot for CEPIC. Justus Göpel initiated the creation of CEPIC and after his death Kathrin became a great supporter, morally and financially. It is a shame that CEPIC has never created an honorary membership. She left us much too early. I will miss her a lot.”
Sylvie Fodor Executive Director CEPIC.

“Kathrin Goepel was at the head of akg-images during a period of considerable change in the picture industry and she approached every challenge and new development with tremendous positivity. akg’s London office was barely two years old when Kathrin became CEO and we are indebted to her for her generous support and calm counsel. Kathrin was an exceptional woman and we will all miss her terribly. Thank you to everyone who has sent through their condolences.”
David Price-Hughes, Managing Director, akg-images London
