UK photo resource, Mary Evans Picture Library, is now representing images from the archives of Britain’s oldest museum, the Ashmolean. Founded in 1683, the Ashmolean Museum began as a cabinet of curiosities developed by royal gardener and traveller, John Tradescant. During the late 1650s, the collection was acquired by Elias Ashmole, who later gifted it to the University of Oxford. The museum opened to the public in 1846 and is not only the oldest in the UK, but one of the oldest in the world.
