Christie’s to auction it’s first AI painting

Update: 26 Oct 2018 This painting sold for £337,000 (estimate before the auction was £7000).

As the whole AI thing is starting work to its way into the stock photography world both through image creation and keywording, the technology has also landed in the art world. Auction house Christie’s are looking to sell their first algorithm produced painting this month.

‘It was created by an artificial intelligence, an algorithm defined by that algebraic formula with its many parentheses. And when it goes under the hammer in the Prints & Multiples  sale at Christie’s on 23-25 October, Portrait of Edmond Belamy  will signal the arrival of AI art on the world auction stage.’
