Online entries for the 2011 UK Picture Editors’ Guild Awards closed at midnight on July 31st ? but not before a deluge of images uploaded from press photographers just beating the deadline.
The last-minute surge added to the impressive range of pictures already submitted and closed with a total three times as many as 2010. A jury of 12 senior picture editors drawn from a cross-section of the British media will now have almost two months to select the winners.
Guild chairman Alan Sparrow said: ?Our first Awards filled a void for the competitive world of press photography enabling professionals to have their best pictures judged alongside those of colleagues and rivals. It is a tremendous boost that after the success of 2010 we already have an even better contest in prospect this year.?
