EyeEm photo library which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year has been acquired by Freepik.
EyeEm will operate as an independent business and Freepik will take on the remaining employees of EyeEm to reignite the business and rebuild its contributor community. They said “over the coming days, Freepik will swiftly pay off all outstanding debts to EyeEm’s 140,000 contributors and enable EyeEm to recover from bankruptcy, restoring its operations. It will also create more favourable conditions for many creatives.” EyeEm’s 160 million photographs will add to Freepik’s 72 million resources – which include videos, illustrations, icons, and vectors. Through Freepik’s revised business model for EyeEm, customers will pay a smaller set fee per month for unlimited downloads – opening up access to premium content.
If you are a contributor to EyeEm this is what you need to know:
Why did you disappear these past months? For the last few months, we have been doing our best to find a solution that would allow the EyeEm community to thrive and move forward. We are aware that, during this process, we have failed to be as communicative as you deserve, but we are finally back to make things right and support your growth.
What happened with Talenthouse? Unfortunately, Talenthouse went insolvent, and with it EyeEm, too. That’s why we’ve had to part ways and start anew with Freepik.
What should I expect from EyeEm from now on? We will get up to speed smoothly in the next few months and update you on every milestone throughout this new path. Please expect image reviewing to take some time as we are working though a big backlog. Thank you.
Will the app be running as usual? Yes – the app has been recently updated to support Android’s latest versions.
Will the community receive support again? Absolutely, our community is a top priority for us. We plan to activate communication channels, keep our blog updated, and provide you with the support you need.
Will there be missions again? Yes, we plan to reintroduce missions before the end of the year, providing more opportunities for you to engage and increase your earnings.
What’s the role of Freepik? Freepik has acquired EyeEm and will provide support to take EyeEm back to full capacity and even beyond. Additionally, Freepik will become a distribution partner to EyeEm, distributing our content only to its Premium subscribers.
Who is Freepik? Freepik is one of the largest graphic resources platforms, with more than 635,000 subscribers and 55,000 contributors. By having your content displayed in Freepik, you will increase its visibility and your earnings.
