They say: ‘Rock music ain’t new, but its ear-pleasing melodies and raw howls still form the soundtracks to our lives. These promo shots and revealing candids–some from legendary shoots–recall more than 50 years in popular music history, capturing unplanned moments, expressions both innocent and insouciant, and early examples of the now-ubiquitous band shot. The images hint at the stories, triumphant or tragic, that followed the shutter clicks.
