Getty Images Archive are now representing the work of German-American portrait and documentary photographer Evelyn Hofer (b.1922 d.2009).
They say: ‘Described as the most famous unknown photographer in America, Hofer has recently enjoyed a major revival of interest. Her pioneering early colour work, which aimed to transcend documentary photography, took its characteristic and evocative style from the precision and pace at which she worked with larger format cameras. With a career spanning half a century her noted works run the gamut from portraits to painterly still lifes to finely considered landscape work.’
