Go See: English Heritage Archives: Bedford Lemere & Co At The V&A

4 June – 30 October 2011 V&A/RIBA Architecture Gallery Room 128a at the V&A – FREE
Explore the work of Bedford Lemere & Co., the leading architectural photography company of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In business from the 1870s until the 1940s, Bedford Lemere and his son Harry Bedford Lemere pioneered professional architectural photography and set the standard for others to follow.
The display will present photographs and objects from the archives of English Heritage, the Royal Institute of British Architects and the V&A. Curated by Anne Woodward and Gary Woodward from English Heritage, it will explore Bedford Lemere & Co’s extraordinary client list, the evolving role of commercial photography and the lasting social significance of the images.
Accompanying the exhibition, English Heritage is publishing the book (cover above right) The Photography of Bedford Lemere & Co. by Nicholas Cooper. The book features over 250 photographs printed from the original negatives.
