Fields of Battle Lands of Peace 14-18 exhibition commemorates 100th anniversary of WWI St James’ Park, London

Photographer Mike St. Maur Sheil at his Fields of Battle Lands of Peace 14-18 exhibition sponsored by The Royal British Legion outdoors in St. James’ Park, London, England. The exhibition commemorates the centenary of WWI and opens on the 4th August, the 100th anniversary of Britain entering the First World War. It will run until November.
Mike is holding the Loos football which the London Irish Rifles kicked across No Mans Land on Sept 25th 1915 as they attacked the German positions in the town of Loos. He is seen with piper Terry Goodman, a retired member of the London Irish Rifles Pipe Band which was the regiment who originally played the football game.
Mike St Maur Sheil says “This collection represents a legacy which I hope will create a gateway to the battlefields themselves, thus encouraging people to visit these historic landscapes during the centennial period and so create awareness and understanding of the events and historical implications of the First World War”.
