For those UK photo people not heading the the beach the Lee Millar Archives has a great looking show on the walls – ‘Love Letters Bound in Gold Handcuffs’ charts the tumultuous, continent-spanning beginning of the relationship between photographer Lee Miller and Surrealist artist Roland Penrose, with photographs that have never been seen before.
‘Experience the urgency and intimacy between photographer Lee Miller and Surrealist artist Roland Penrose through their love letters and photographs taken at this time. Expanding to show other work by Lee Miller from her travels and period living in Egypt (1934-1939). Photographs such as ‘Portrait of Space’ are considered, by many, to have been taken by Lee at the height of her Surrealist photography output, and yet very few of her other Egyptian period images have been exhibited or published until now.’
The exhibition is at the Lee Miller collection home in East Sussex. (Thursday and Sunday 10.30am-4.30pm until 29 October. )
