Go See: PA Images Lewis Whyld – London Riots Revisited

The Press Association is to present a selection of iconic images photographed during the London riots, titled London Riots Revisited. The exhibition will focus on well-known images shot by PA photographer Lewis Whyld as the unrest and panic developed on the streets of London in 2011.
PA Group Picture Editor, Martin Keene, said: “PA takes great pride in having photojournalists in the right place at the right time to produce outstanding content. Lewis’ presence in Tottenham, the first and fiercest night of unrest, is one such example.
PA photographer, Lewis Whyld, said: “I have worked in both Egypt and Afghanistan earlier in the year, but I didn’t expect to be experiencing a similar hostile environment on London’s streets.
“The scenes of looting, chaos and violence were shocking and had to be recorded, even if it meant I shot many of my pictures from a mobile phone using the beam of police helicopter searchlights.”
