Guardian pic ed highlights the Daily Mirror on ‘lazy journalism’ over stock photo use

Roger Tooth, head of photography at the Guardian newspaper in the UK has penned a blog post about the front page use of a stock photo over at the Mirror newspaper – titled ‘Mirror’s weeping child picture is a lie and smacks of lazy journalism at best’- it’s an interesting read about the use of a single image to represent a news story.

‘The Daily Mirror – in my view – has one of the most comprehensive and well managed editorial photographic archives in the world. Having been lucky to do a few consultancy jobs on it over the years it is obvious from my time at the Mirror’s photographic archives in Watford that the use and appreciation of photography is one thing which the newspaper has always held foremost as part of it’s success since 1904 when the Daily Mirror was the first newspaper in the UK to use news photography.’
