In Memory: Jimmy Horton founder of Photo News

Jimmy at work outside the Old Bailey

Jimmy Horton, photographer and founder of the UK’s number one specialist criminal and courts photo agency, Photo News, passed away in January 2003 aged 41.

Jimmy started Photo News in 1985 covering activity at all the major law courts of London. The agency’s base was an office inside the Old Bailey criminal courts.
I worked for Jimmy in the late 80’s and learnt very quickly how to use a camera!
Film from a shoot was developed in a 24hour developing shop opposite the Bailey (in Ludgate Hill) where normal shop customers had to wait a little longer than the stated ‘1Hour Developing Service’ if Photo News had an urgent set of images to get to Fleet Street before the newspaper deadlines….luckily the owner of the shop was Jimmy’s girlfriend!
