Picture Research and Rights Clearance Coordinator
Part-time, 24 hours per week
£28881 pro rata per annum
Fixed Term Contract to December 2025
Site and Home based (initially 2 days onsite per month)
The National Portrait Gallery houses a unique collection of all forms of portraiture of the people who have made or are currently contributing to British history and culture; the collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the world. With around 2 million visitors each year prior to temporary closure for the Inspiring People project and a strong national and international presence through touring exhibitions and special projects, the Gallery is one of the country’s most important and popular galleries.
We are seeking an experienced individual to join our Rights & Images team as Picture Research and Rights Clearance Coordinator.
Reporting to the Picture Library Manager, the post holder is responsible for managing the sourcing, procurement, reproduction and rights clearance of third party photographic material for all areas of Gallery usage, including but not limited to Exhibitions, Displays, Interpretation, Learning, Sponsorship, Marketing & PR, Publications and Retail and for providing the relevant support to those teams.
The successful candidate will be a well organised, creative individual with a high level of initiative and demonstrable experience and success sourcing images, negotiating fees and clearing rights for complex cultural and heritage projects.This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable self-starter to work for one of the country’s most important and popular galleries, on an array of exciting projects.
