Jon Oringer: Shutterstock is now a Platform

Here at PAN we got used to the new word for photo library  – Marketplace – which we think was first mentioned as a photo library business description by Shutterstock. Well, they just changed this again  – now it’s Platform. Jon Oringer mentioned it in his 2016 Financial debrief we linked to over the weekend …’Moving forward, our focus and vision is to expand our business from a marketplace to a platform…”

We thought they were following Getty Images changing their look to suit the general public but it seems Jon wants Shutterstock to be a personalised creative tool for creatives and business he and told PAN: “As you know, Shutterstock offers access to a library of high-quality content, from a network of more than 190,000 contributors around the world and in recent years we have built innovative search technology. We recently expanded on this smart technology to offer additional tools for our customers such as Shutterstock Editor, as well as collaborative lightbox functionality for teams. We have also dedicated considerable time and resources over the last year on upgrading our technology stack to be more scalable and efficient. All of this work is preparing the business for the future, as we look to further diversify our product mix and offer a more personalised and localised customer experience.”
