Kinolibrary signs filmmaker Don Letts’s archive – 1970/80’s London youth culture

The Kinolibrary now represent – exclusively – filmmaker Don Letts’s archive, a testament to the cultural exchange between the black and white youth of London in the 70s and 80s.

Armed with a Super 8 camera, Letts documented the era’s most prominent countercultures; Reggae and Punk. He toured with The Clash, managed the Slits, and DJed at the Roxy, arguably turning a whole generation of Punks onto Reggae in the process. Including on-stage and backstage footage with artists like Generation X and their lead-singer Billy Idol, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Slits and The Sex Pistols, the collection also features crowd scenes at the Roxy from the heart of London’s punk scene.
