
The Associated Press have launched it’s own image checker; called AP Verify, ‘this verification dashboard combining AI-powered features with established digital verification tools to transform the way newsrooms authenticate online photos, videos and other digital content.’
The system is used daily across AP’s global news operations, supporting teams covering breaking news, misinformation and investigative reporting. Recent examples include of it’s use include:
Vetting a video showing violence surrounding a soccer match in Israel that was actually from Greece a month earlier.
Securing original Texas flood footage by using reverse search and tools to contact the videographer and secure permission.
Verifying a viral meteor sighting in South Carolina by tracing video frames back to a social media post and connecting with the original source.
Searching for a key eyewitnesses video from the Charlie Kirk assassination by analyzing social content and using tools to confirm the source.
