Launched: IWM Second World War categories page – for footage researchers

A project is underway to make the Imperial War Museums’ vast film collection more accessible for researchers.

First up – the IWM has launched a Second World War Categories page which will be expanded to cover a wider range of twentieth century conflicts and social history themes within the collection.

They say: ‘IWM’s film collection covers all aspects of conflicts in which British, Commonwealth or former Empire countries have been involved since the start of the twentieth century. The first instalment, the Second World War categories page, divides the collection thematically, as well as by key events. The page represents the core digitised material of the Second World War collection, rather than offering an exhaustive picture of the War. Larger sub-categories of the global nature of the conflict will be added at a later date.’
