Major UK photo library launches WW1 centenary photo blog – from the archives

Budding stock photo industry author Luci Gosling, Business Development Manager at Mary Evans photo library, is behind a new photo blog from the library called Picturing the Great War. The blog is dedicated to telling the stories of the First World War which are being uncovered on a daily basis at the library. As the centenary of the conflict approaches, and the library continues to select and scan material from the vast array of Great War magazines in its archive, this regular update offers a new way to engage and communicate with clients and enthusiasts alike.
They say: ‘We wanted to find several ways to convey the impressive breadth and depth of this rich resource to our clients,’ explains Luci Gosling, Business Development Manager at Mary Evans. ‘Already we have a substantial collection of photographs, cartoons, fine art images, illustrations, posters, postcards and covers on the subject but we feel that we have barely touched the surface of what is available. With an almost inexhaustible supply of fascinating pictures and information we still felt there was something more we could do to share this unique resource and so the Mary Evans WW1 blog was born.’
The blog will be a regular, visual diary of the First World War archives at Mary Evans and a fascinating peek into both the iconic and unusual aspects of the conflict from home front to fighting fronts. The library plans to unearth the unusual, the quirky, the forgotten, the tragic, the funny, the moving and the heroic and to tell the stores of some long-forgotten individuals who played a significant part in ‘the Greater Game.’
