Paul Brown will be retiring from his role as Managing Director of London based Mary Evans Picture Library on the 1st May after steering the independent historical picture source business for 18 years. He will also be retiring from work life after a very successful 44 year career in the photo licensing industry. Congratulations!
The new Managing Director at Mary Evans will be Matt Hamer. Matt runs Media Storehouse, where for more than 20 years he’s been providing image owners with an outsourced print and merchandise service for sales to the general public. He will continue to run Media Storehouse alongside his new role at Mary Evans which starts 1st May.
Paul told PAN over the weekend, “Having taken the tough decision to stand down, I am pleased to leave Mary Evans in such safe hands. Matt knows both the industry, and our business, very well. Sixty years is a long time for any family-owned business to survive, but I am confident that with Matt at the helm, Mary Evans Picture Library will be around to celebrate many more milestones in the decades ahead.”
Matt said “I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to be the new Managing Director of Mary Evans. Having worked with the team for nearly two decades it will be exciting to get further involved, learn more and explore new opportunities.”
Valentine Ward Evans, owner of Mary Evans Picture Library said “I’m delighted Matt is joining our experienced team and I’m sure his long-standing connection with Mary Evans and the wider industry will help ensure we maintain our position as the leading supplier of historical and cinema imagery.”
PAN says: Paul, as those who know him will know, will be ‘in’ the industry for sometime ahead even though, as he keeps telling me, “this is full retirement”, he’ll still be in touch with the team at the photo library and with the industry in general. Having been involved over the years in top roles at industry associations CEPIC and BAPLA he continues on the board at photo rights collecting society Picsel so there’s no straight retirement to the beach just yet! I/PAN will look forward to continuing our regular industry catch ups; discussing (a little) gossip, new trends and future forecasting.
