Press Association photographer Owen Humphreys has today been named Barclays Photographer of the Season. The award honours photographers who best captured the ‘passion, excitement and drama during the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season’.
Martin Keene, Group Picture Editor at PA, said: “We are very excited and proud of Owen’s most recent achievement; his passion for sports photography deserves nothing less. This completes an extremely successful week as he was also recently named British Airways Olympic Sports Photographer. To win both of these awards is a fantastic achievement considering the number of photographers at London 2012 and during the Barclays Premier League season – well done Owen.”
Owen Humphreys said: “I’m delighted to receive this award from Barclays. Last season’s Barclays Premier League was one of the best I have witnessed and I feel privileged to have attended some of the best matches and have always tried to capture them in an imaginative way. Football photography continues to be such an important part of the sport, documenting stand-out moments for everyone to enjoy.”

The judging panel included Sky Sports football commentator Martin Tyler, last year’s Barclays Photographer of the Season winner Martin Rickett from PA, UK Picture Editors’ Guild chairman Alan Sparrow and The Times’ Chief Sports Photographer, Marc Aspland.
In conjunction with the award, Humphreys will receive £10,000 to spend on photographic equipment.
