PAN report: Eyevine at 20 – Graham Cross reflects

This year, in March to be exact, the London based photo agency eyevine is celebrating 20 years in the business – the agency syndicates work for some of the finest editorial photographers shooting news, reportage, entertainment and studio portraiture.

Founded by David Leverton and Graham Cross in 2002 the agency has remained independent within a tough ever-shifting marketplace and strongly committed to ensuring the work of represented photographers is published globally. As well as an impressive cohort of photographers, representations include publishers such as The New York Times, The Guardian & Observer, The Evening Standard as well as sister agencies such as Redux, Polaris Images, Contact Press Images, Zuma Press, Xinhua and Headpress.
Graham told PAN “We have always kept resources focused on what we are best at, trying not to become distracted from the priorities. We owe it to our photographers to ensure their work is out there and the stories told. Now it’s Ukraine, but we’ve seen every major event cross our desks for 20 years (and then some in previous roles), plus we represent some amazing archives going much much further back.”
David says “20 years have passed by in a flash. We have had the pleasure of working with great clients, photographers and agencies making lifelong friends along the way. The industry has changed in so many ways since we started eyevine in 2002, and whilst eyevine is fully digital and quick to react to whatever comes our way, we endeavour still to provide a personal service which clients appreciate. I want to thank everyone who has supported eyevine.”
20 years ago eyevine started in the corner of a friend’s studio office with a single Mac, two chairs and a phone. They are still here, still ensuring images appear as covers and spreads around the world. “We still get a kick from having a “show” for a photographer such as today’s eyewitness centre page in the Guardian. Thats never changed – it’s like day one back in 2002 and always will be”.

Happy Birthday eyevine …almost as old as PAN, Cheers!
