Picture Editors’ Awards 2007 – Launch & call for entries

“We are delighted to announce the launch of the 2007 Picture Editors’ Awards. We will open for entries during tomorrow and we will notify you as soon as you can send in your entries. We are advising you of the categories in advance to enable you to start preparing your images as the timeframe for entries is short”.

Picture Editors’ Awards 2007 – Launch & call for entries

We are delighted to announce the launch of the 2007 Picture Editors’ Awards. We will open for entries during tomorrow and we will notify you as soon as you can send in your entries. We are advising you of the categories in advance to enable you to start preparing your images as the timeframe for entries is short.

We will be accepting entries between Saturday 18th May and Sunday 27th May 2007. Images can be from the period 1st January 2006 to 19th May 2007 (inclusive). As always, entry is free, there are no registration or other fees. Entries can be submitted via email and the maximum size of each image is 750Kb.
The Awards will be presented at a ceremony at Guildhall, London on Wednesday 20th June 2007. All nominees will be invited to the ceremony along with a guest. All winners will be awarded a specially commissioned crystal trophy to mark their success. Every image submitted will be displayed in our Gallery which contains the largest online archive of contemporary photography.
The categories for 2007 are:
Portfolio Awards:
Portfolios consist of between 8 and 10 images (inclusive). Photographers may enter one portfolio in each of the portfolio categories for which they qualify, except for the Photo Essay category where two portfolios may be entered. Images may be included in more than one portfolio entry – for example a picture in the Sports Photographer category might also feature in the Photographer of the Year category.
Photographer of the Year
The ultimate accolade, which is open to all photographers.
Regional Newspapers Photographer of the Year
Open to staff photographers or freelancers who work for daily, evening or Sunday newspapers which are published and circulated in a regional city, town or area. Photographers eligible for this award may also enter the Photographer of the Year category, but not the Local Newspapers category.
Local Newspapers Photographer of the Year
Open to photographers who mainly contribute to local weekly and bi-weekly titles. In order for your entry to be accepted, you must tell us in your registration which weekly or bi-weekly title(s) you work for. Your portfolio should be work produced for paid editorial use by that weekly/bi-weekly newspaper. Photographers eligible for this award may also enter the Photographer of the Year category but not the Regional Newspapers category.
Photo Essay Photographer of the Year
Photographers can enter two portfolios each containing between 8 and 10 images. A brief summary of the story can be included by completing an online form.
Sports Photographer of the Year
A portfolio of 8-10 sports pictures.
Young Photographer of the Year
Open to photographers aged under 25 years on 1st May 2007. Photographers eligible for this award may also enter any other category for which they are eligible.
Single Image Awards:
Photographers may enter up to five images in each of the single picture categories. No image may be entered in more than one single picture category. However, any photographs you enter into a Single Image category can be used in any of the relevant Portfolio categories.
News Photographer of the Year
This category covers any news stories in the UK and Ireland.
Foreign News Photographer of the Year
This category covers news stories outside the UK or Ireland.
Royal Photographer of the Year
Portrait Photographer of the Year
Arts, Entertainment and Celebrity images
Nature & the Environment Photographer of the Year
Sports Picture of the Year
