PAN reader, Photo Editor Katherine Kay-Mouat, has sent us this obituary of photographer John Echave who died in June aged 78. Katherine told us: “John was inspirational, generous and kind, a gentleman of the American Press. He hired me while I was working for an environmental group in London, I was not an obvious choice for an American news magazine with a print-run of 2.5 million. Growing up on a tiny grey, granite island his yellow magazines were a life line to other places full of colour, life and news. Some people change our lives for the best, John was one of those people, they are few.”
The image of John (circa 1991) is by his friend, photographer and former owner of the Aurora Photos agency, Joze Azel – Jose told PAN: “We shared a rediscovery of our homeland together”.
