The Mega Agency has launched a new public e-commerce platform, opening more than 30 million licensed editorial images to publishers worldwide for the first time and introducing an AI-powered tool designed to transform curated image sets into publication-ready stories in seconds.

Now live at explore.themegaagency.com, the beta platform replaces traditional agency workflows with a modern licensing infrastructure built for speed, automation and direct access.

Watch above: The new StoryCreation™ engine is designed to significantly increase publisher productivity. Early testing suggests some publishers have increased their daily content output by as much as seven timesby automating repetitive editorial groundwork.

Mega told PAN this morning “The StoryCreation launch represents a shift in how editorial imagery is distributed and used in the digital publishing era. We’re transforming the photo archive from a passive library into a real-time publishing engine.”

Editors can preload customised prompts that define their publication’s tone, formatting requirements, legal guidelines and editorial style. The system analyses curated images using image and facial recognition software and combines that information with advanced language models to generate structured, editorial copy tailored to each publisher’s voice.

“This is about replacing legacy systems that slow publishers down and drive up costs,” a Mega spokesperson told PAN this morning – “The traditional agency model was built for a different era. We’ve rebuilt the system for speed, scale and direct global access.”

Under the new platform, Mega has introduced a fully automated licensing environment while maintaining strict rights protection. Territory restrictions, editorial usage controls and licensing protections remain fully enforced, while buyers anywhere in the world can license imagery instantly through automated online payment processing. “We’ve removed the friction, but not the protection,” Mega told us. “Anyone anywhere in the world can transact instantly, but rights control remains at the core.”

Pricing has been designed to remain accessible for publishers while protecting long-term value for photographers and contributors. “Modern distribution should not come at the expense of content creators,” the company said. “We’ve structured pricing to give publishers flexibility while preserving the sustainability of professional editorial photography.”

“This product allows publishers to produce more compelling content with fewer resources,” Mega said. “There is a clear efficiency gain. But the bigger opportunity is revenue growth. If publishers can publish faster and build stories around iconic visual moments more quickly, that creates stronger audience engagement and greater advertising potential.”

Despite the AI-powered workflow, Mega emphasised that its platform does not generate synthetic imagery. “We believe in authenticity. Every image on our platform is genuine, licensed editorial photography from professional contributors. Our technology supports publishing workflows – it does not fabricate visuals.” “While many in the industry are moving into AI image generation, that is not our model.”

The platform has been designed to benefit publishers of all sizes, from independent digital publishers looking to expand their content output efficiently to major global media groups seeking to streamline large-scale editorial operations. “This is not just a tool for large newsrooms,” Mega said. “It’s an AI-powered publishing infrastructure for anyone serious about building editorial content around licensed imagery.”

The technology was developed in partnership with Mainstream Data. “Mega came to us with a bold idea: replace old, inefficient legacy content generation systems with an AI-powered, lightning-quick and scalable solution,” said Scott Calder, CEO of Mainstream Data. “Together we rethought how editorial content moves from archive to audience. We believe we’ve helped build a modern publishing infrastructure optimized for today’s demand for speed.”

Mega says the launch represents a shift in how editorial imagery is distributed and used in the digital publishing era. “We’re transforming the photo archive from a passive library into a real-time publishing engine,” the company said.
