A chancellor in the rain, a bird’s-eye view of a wind turbine, ecstatic Frankfurt football cheering and more: the German press agency dpa has awarded its best photos of 2022. Watch the winners above!
First place in the News category went to Kay Nietfeld, who photographed Chancellor Olaf Scholz protected by numerous umbrellas during a visit to stormy Oslo. The other winning photos: Bernd Weißbrod with a photo of the dancer Luca Pannacci in the Theaterhaus in Stuttgart (Arts & Entertainment), Jens Büttner with people on a wind turbine from above (Features), Arne Dedert with celebrating Frankfurt soccer fans after winning the Europa League (Sports ), Sebastian Kahnert with a home office situation (symbolic image) and Oliver Weiken with Afghan coal miners in the province of Baghlan (story). A total of 46 photographers submitted around 850 images.
Silke Brüggemeier, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Head of Visual Affairs at dpa says: “We would like to thank our photographers for their commitment and passion. With their work, they all play an important part in providing people with a realistic and fact-based picture of what is happening in Germany and the world,” adds editor-in-chief Peer Grimm.
