Here at PAN we are in communication all week long with lots of photos agency owners both stock and editorial discussing how their business is under COVID-19
This from UK editorial photo agency Camera Press:
I hope you and your family are safe and well during this unprecedented time.
As with most Agencies I am sure, we are fully set up to work remotely and the Camera Press small team have been working very proactively from our respective homes, since we closed the office two and a half weeks ago. Clearly the situation is far from ideal, but we have found it very useful and constructive to stay in daily contact via video conferencing, which is not something that we had used so much in the past. We are similarly in constant contact with our photographers, suppliers, clients and agents alike.
We have been producing digital promos throughout the day to all press, probably more than usual in fact, linked to each new TV series, news stories and forthcoming events and anniversaries, 7 days a week. If anything, we are finding the work day is longer than usual with requests coming in at all hours.
One positive aspect we have found is that as it is currently not possible for publications to produce their own studio portraits, or Lifestyle/Beauty material, they have started to buy in more material from Agencies. We have been very busy with requests and are hopeful that these will translate into future sales. Generally of course, the last month’s sales have been considerably lower than normal, with so much emphasis on virus related stories. We do have a stream of daily coronavirus linked images and some photographers have been actively providing stock imagery linked to the crisis. We are also busy with portraiture and repackaging archive imagery, as usually busy photographers have been able to catch up on sending in their portrait submissions and checking their archives and drives for gems previously undiscovered.
See above and below usages from the Mail this weekend and Timothee Chalamet from The Sunday Telegraph Men Magazine. No scanner at home, so a couple are snaps on my mobile I’m afraid!
We must all get through this difficult time, stay safe and healthy and come out the other end.
