Dan Taylor has let PAN know he’s leaving the Backgrid UK business he and his father David built up over 25 years which was sold to Shutterstock in February 2024.
This from Dan on his departure today:
Today, I step away from the business we built.
It’s been one hell of a ride.
The Taylor boys and our dad, David, built a global business we eventually sold to Shutterstock. 25 years of all-in commitment. Blood, sweat, tears and more, every step of the way.
We lost Dad to cancer last year, and I know he’d be smiling today. Dad was 46, the exact same age I am now … when he started this with us. Today, at 46, I’m the one turning the page.
This was my life’s work. What I’ll miss most is that we did it together – family, photographers, editors, clients, teammates and friends. We built something transparent and forward-thinking, and I’m proud of the service we created.
Thank you to Shutterstock for recognising what we built and carrying it forward with care.
You know when the time is right – for me, it’s now. I’m taking a little time to reflect, and I look forward to seeing many of your faces again soon.
— Dan
What a ride – well done Dan, great work! – hear from you again soon.
