Following their in-agency awards announcement last week, German based photo agency EPA Images has another positive industry initiative ready – it’s the EPA Academy – a 12-month course designed to equip emerging photographers with the essential technical, journalistic, and artistic skills needed to excel in the fast-paced world of news photography.

The EPA Academy offers a unique combination of theory, practical assignments, and hands-on experience. Students will participate in in-depth seminars, practical workshops, and a two-month internship, gaining valuable experience in creating impactful visual stories and mastering the art of photo editing. The course, hosted at EPA Images’ headquarters in Frankfurt, is the only training programme in Germany that combines news photography and editing in an international context.

Course Highlights:
• Duration: 12 months (10 months of seminars & workshops, 2-month internship).
• Format: Monthly seminars (4 days each), practical assignments, and personalized
mentorship.
• Class Size: Limited to 10 students to ensure personalized attention.
• Venue: EPA’s headquarters in Frankfurt (remote internship option available).
• Certification: Participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion.

They say: The EPA Academy is tailored to those who wish to specialize in photojournalism, particularly news and sports photography, and provides comprehensive training in both the technical aspects of photography and the editorial processes essential to newsrooms.
“Some of the most valuable lessons in my career came from being part of a structured training programme whilst in college with the company that eventually became my first employer, EPA’s shareholder Agencia EFE, ” said Julia R. Arévalo, President & CEO of EPA Images.
“It’s how I started, learning with and from other journalists. I’m proud that EPA Images is now offering the same kind of opportunity to the next generation of visual journalists. ”
