Newspaper photographer George Phillips died on 12 November 2018 – he was 84.
George was a newspaper photographer for most of his life working on the Daily Herald/Sun in the 1950’s/60’s and then from 1971 he was regional staff photographer (South West England) for the Daily Mirror group newspapers (now Reach) who sent us these images of him from their staff files.

This image shot by George of a train crash at Harrow and Wealdstone in 1952 (thanks to Bob Thomas for the usage) won an award in the Britannica news Picture of the Year awards.
