“Hi Will, Cafe Royal Books, run by Craig Atkinson, asked if I would like to do some little ‘zines of my work. A zine is a small run (100) digitally printed softback book. Craig sells them via his website and at specialist book fairs. Its an interesting little concept. A new way of showing a story, produced nicely and at low cost. He sells them for a fiver each via his website.
I have done two so far – ‘British Rituals‘ and ‘The Burry Man
Both are from a story that I shot back in 1997 on quirky British Rituals, that was used at the time over ten pages in the Sunday Times magazine. Like most stories after it’s initial publication, and any subsequent stock sales, it tends to die a death. This is a nice way to resurrect the pictures, and by making another edit years later, have a different perspective on the story, even finding pictures that were not in the edit first time round.
I think that ‘British Rituals’ has just sold out, but ‘The Burry Man only went on sale yesterday (13th feb), so should be available for a bit!
As the Burry Man is in Scotland, I also had a nice chat with Jeremy Sutton-Hibert at Document Scotland that appeared on their blog yesterday.
