PAN readers in California are in for a cinematic treat this year with full screenings of restored film’s from the Walt Disney Restoration and Library Management department!
The screenings will take place every Saturday in 2026 at the Orinda Theater in Orinda, CA – They told PAN: ‘The Orinda Theatre in Orinda, California has made an arrangement with the Restoration and Library Management Department of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures to feature a special year-long showcase of the extraordinary work of that special department. Disney has been an industry leader of film preservation for many decades and has documented and preserved its own studio’s fabled and remarkable history since the beginning. This special department also became custodian and archive for several additional library brands acquired later by the studio, including the Selznick International library and, in 2019, the collections of 20th Century-Fox, and predecessors 20th Century Pictures and Fox Film Corp. Since these libraries were acquired, the Restoration and Library Department, under the direction of Kevin Schaeffer, has effected a rigorous and active restoration schedule of these titles and assets in addition to the Disney studio library materials.’
Many of these cinematic gems have been absent from theaters for years, making this year-long showcase a groundbreaking event for Northern California – next up, Star Wars!
