WINNER – Fleet Street’s Finest Photo Essay Photographer of the Year Jack Hill/The Times. Kharkiv which is under constant Russian attack. Primarily from the air or by shelling. This was the Ukrainian capital during the Soviet period and is close to the Russian border. Yelena Burainchenko (spelling) in the main Kharkiv general hospital. She was injured when her aparment building was shelled by Russian forces. It is green disinfectant over what were her open wounds. She was then moved to Germany to recieve specialist treatment. 7 March 2022.

WINNER – UKPEG Business Photographer of the Year Jeff Moore. Beavertown Brewery gave unsuspecting Londoners a scare as they kicked off their week of Halloween celebrations. Aliens and space skeletons roamed the streets of London Bridge as part of Beavertownís Rime of the Ancient Mariner party taking place at the nearby Flat Iron Square.

Queen Elizabeth II waits in the Drawing Room before receiving Liz Truss for an audience at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, where she invited the newly elected leader of the Conservative party to become Prime Minister and form a new government. The British monarch died at Balmoral Castle two days afterwards. Picture date : Tuesday September 6, 2022.

Congrats to the winning photographers in this year’s UK Picture Editors’ Guild Awards (UKPEG) held at the headquarters of the Honourable Artillery Company in London last night – October 16th 2023.

During the event The UK Picture Editors’ Guild also paid tribute to two stalwarts of the industry who stepped down this year from their demanding roles who received Lifetime Achievement Awards. Paul Silva, Picture Editor for the Daily Mail, for more than 34 years. He said that he was looking forward to not getting up at 4.30am and returning home at 10pm daily. Another titan of the industry, Martin Keene, former Group Picture Editor of the PA Media, stepped down from his role as Picture Editor in charge of Ceremonial events. He now has this award to add to the Royal Victorian Order that recognises distinguished personal service to Queen Elizabeth II.
