dpa 2018 trading figures report decline in sales but higher net profit

The group of companies of the German Press Agency (dpa) can look back on a successful financial year 2018 in Berlin on the occasion of its 70th shareholders’ meeting today in Berlin. As a result, Group sales increased to 139.8 million euros (2017: 136.7 million). This corresponds to growth of 2.3 percent. The turnover of the core company dpa GmbH in 2018 was 93.0 million euros (2017: 93.6). Despite a slight decline in sales at dpa GmbH, Germany’s largest news agency was able to generate a higher net profit for the year of 1.5 million euros than in the previous year (2017: 1.2). The number of employees in the Group at the end of the year was 1,191. The dpa has 179 partners.

“The figures show that the dpa Group is developing successfully in a complex market environment and is strategically on the right track,” said Peter Kropsch, chairman of the dpa management. “We have succeeded in closely accompanying our clients in the transformation into digital media houses and making the right offers available, while at the same time expanding our business and governance business,” continued Peter Kropsch.

The market shares of dpa in the newspaper sector and the number of customers in Germany and abroad were maintained at a high level. While the print market continues to struggle with decreasing print runs, dpa has been able to expand its sales, particularly in the area of digital news, business and communications solutions, and individual content creation.
