Spanish news agency Europa Press and the German Press Agency (Deutsche Presse-Agentur, dpa) are moving closer together: a new joint offering for the Spanish-speaking market includes around 300 news items per day plus linked photos and videos. Concentrating especially in Latin America, as a central market for cooperation, both partners want to ‘score with up-to-date news coverage as well as sports, science, health and technology content.’
For more than two years, the Europa Press has been contributing to the international part of dpa image broadcasting with its photo production and is providing Spain news for the dpa office in Madrid.
“After the necessary restructuring measures that we had to carry out at our Spanish-language text service at the end of last year, Europa Press approached us with the proposal for closer cooperation,” continued Peter Kropsch. The dpa restructured its Spanish service last year, closing sites in Madrid and Buenos Aires.
“The cooperation gives Europa Press access to a wide range of international content from dpa, which improves our intelligence services for the Spanish home market,” said Asís Martín de Cabiedes, Executive President of Europa Press. “At the same time, two of the largest private European news agencies are combining their respective Spanish-language products into a high-value service for the Latin American media.”
