Getty Images addresses AI generated content – it’s a no

With the art world discussing the rights and wrongs of AI generated artwork entered into a competition recently, Getty Images are the first in the stock photo arena to announce a clear direction on what could be a possible copyright nightmare concerning some AI generated content.

In a notice to contributors and confirmed to PAN the agency announced ‘Effective immediately, Getty Images will cease to accept all submissions created using AI generative models and prior submissions utilising such models will be removed.’

The notice goes on to explain: ‘There are open questions with respect to the copyright of outputs from these models and there are unaddressed rights issues with respect to the underlying imagery and metadata used to train these models.’

The new directive does not include 3D images or content edited using photoshop, illustrator etc.
